trying to create a mask in photoshop cc
My problem is trying to get a bird to fly across a video of surf. I have the bird already flying across blue sky. The bird is black and white. Should be easy to isolate.
I have tried many things in Premiere Pro to isolate the bird, including a variety of luma adjustments, taking out the color from the sky, etc. In Premiere, the final step is always adjusting the opacity in the various superimposed clips. This gives an unsatisfactory result, so I have been experimenting in Photoshop to try to isolate the bird in other ways without success. Time to ask for help.
Is it even possible in Photoshop to isolate part of a video clip? I have used the Magic Wand Tool to select the sky, then inverted to select the bird. Choosing a new layer with a layer mask then makes the sky transparent...just what I want. But it only applies to the frame the cursor happens to be on at the time. Is there any way to extend this to the whole video clip, so that the bird will fly across a transparent background?
I've gone through a bunch of tutorials on masking in video in Photoshop, but none seem to address this sort of problem. I know this can be done in After Effects, but Photoshop allows filtering effects that give me just the image I want to work with, it would be a shame to lose that aspect of the job. Thanks for any suggestions.
