Trying to open a file from "downloads" folder causes Photoshop to feeze

I updated Photoshop this morning, and now whenever I attempt to open a file from  my "downloads" folder Photoshop freezes.  I can open files from other folders without any problem, but as soon I as attempt to go to the "downloads" folder I am stuck (the files within the folder are also not showing up).
