Question

Tutorial Instructions are using Numbers and not the Name

I am very new to photoshop and trying to complete some tutorials however they are all asking me to select a number e.g. 1461, 1018 and not an actual option from the drop down menu. As an extreme novice with Photoshop I am strugg;ling to complet any tutorial?

Any ideas on if this is a bug or how do i know which option to select?

Hi Tom.  That's an odd one, and I can see how it would be confusing.

Can you point us at the particular totorial?

Does it come from using a particular tool, which is what you might see with Rich Tool Tips enabled.

Screen shots might help.

BTW  Are you using the release version or beta version of Photoshop?  What Operating System and version are you using?  (We can usually see your OS info at least, when you post directly to the Photoshop forum and use the Mac tab, but we lose that infor when a post is moved from another forum.)

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post (like this one has already been moved) if it helps you get responses.
