Question

Type layer slows down whole photoshop - Selecting, Transforming and scrolling fonts

This topic was discussed in 2017. We are i almost 2022 and still there is no fix for that. Creating any text layer slows down whole program. Searching for fonts through list is a tragedy. Selecting text layer is lagging
Adobe please do something with that.

1. Version 23.0 - but like i said it's been over 3 years...
2. Windows 10
3. Create a text layer, paste some text (better more than less) in to it.
4. Expected result: i'd like to work with the same speed as always. Actual result: Everything is lagging.

It is annoying.  I resorted to just making my text layers in Illustrator and copy/pasting into Photoshop.

Really, Photoshop would do well to treat the fonts as vectors until if/when applied as a raster layer.  It's frustrating for sure.  The performance in Photoshop is extremely slow with fonts.  I don't understand why they can't remedy this fairly easily.  Perhaps there is a good reason but I have yet to come across it.

Adobe please fix!

Dude, Adobe don't givepls [cursing removed by moderator] about it. They only focus on AI features forgetting about basics. Photoshop is colossus with feet of clay. I wish someone create "figma for raster image". Affinity is ok, but just ok.

Sadly no. I just started creating my type in Illustrator then copy/pasting it into PS.

Here's a weird workaround: Put the text layer in a group and then scale the group, not the text layer. It will scale and move MUCH faster. I've tried it both in 2020 and 2021.

OMG. It Works. You should spread this solution all over the place! The difference is surreal! Thank you so muthc for this! ❤️

I've had enough of this. Text layers are impossible to work with in Photoshop 2021, with each release PS gets worse and worse. Just look at the video. Art layers select SOMEWHAT okay, but text layers take at least half a second to do that and that's a dealbreaker.

I've tried all possible settings from the performance section of Adobe so please don't link that to me. This also happens on a fresh windows install where there are no custom fonts installed, independent on the document size.

Before you ask, my specs should be twice as enough to handle a basic text layer selection:

24GB Ram
RTX 2060 SUPER

Intel core i7 7700k 3.6ghz

Got any magical solutions anyone? I am really getting sick of this, each release of photoshop just adds silly features while still keeping unoptimized architecture that barely holds together. Please tell me I am not the only one.

@Mateusz Wojciechowski

I apologize, but what should we be seeing in your video? I know I must be missing something.

Text layers are impossible to work with in Photoshop 2021, with each release PS gets worse and worse.

Not with every release (just for the sake of history.) When I started using Photoshop, text was pixels on the current layer, so you had to remember to create a new layer. Editing was deleting and re-typing. Letter spacing was done by selecting the pixels and moving them. Spellcheck came several versions later.

Hello!
Could you go into Help > System Info and take a screenshot of that box and post it here! I would like to know what GPU you've been using

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about the text layer lag with Photoshop 23.0 on your Windows 10 computer.

To narrow down the issue could you please try deselecting "Use Graphics Processor" located in Photoshop's Preferences > Performance, then relaunch Photoshop and let us know if it helps?

Regards,
Sahil

Hi Sahil, unfortunately deselecting "Use Graphic Processor" does not solve the problem.

Can you send over Photoshop's Help > System Info dialog text to us?

You could paste it in a message here, or use a paste service like http://pastebin.com to provide a link to the full text of the System Info.
