Unable to save patterns? No pattern options.

I am unable to save tiles for patterns. I used Edit->Define Pattern->named it->click OK. When I try to fill a layer with Layer->Layer Style->Pattern Overlay, it's not there. I only have one pattern available, diagonal lines. There is no pop up, no dialog box for adding patterns, etc.... I'm on Mac 10.11.16 and PS cc2015. HELP! Making tiles
