Hey

New to photoshop so apologies if this is an easy fix.

Im trying to add lighting effects to a photo, I have copied the image and turned it into a smart filter, then when I render LIGHTING EFFECTS, it opens in a new window with all the controls etc, but my screen (image) is just blacked out, when I adjust anything no difference jsut a black screen.....I should be able to see the original image and then add the lighting effects to see how it appears on the image no?

Help

thanks 🙂

Hi there,

We are sorry about the experience with Photoshop while using the Lightning Effect.

Would you mind sharing more information or may be a screenshot of what you see at your end? It would also be helpful if you could share the version of Photoshop along with the operating system you are using.

If you are using a Windows computer, please ensure that you have the latest graphic card drivers are installed on the computer from the manufacturers website. You can go to the Preferences for Photoshop, then Performance and check the option for Legacy Compositing. Then quit and relaunch Photoshop to check if that helps.

Regards,

Nikunj

Hiya

to giv more info.

I am using a macbook pro (mojave) with photoshop CC2020 - want to add more lighting effects to this image

You can see below.

1- original image

2. making image into a smart object

3. Render lighteing effects, the image disappears - no image shows up so no idea what lighting effects to add etc.  If you turn preview off - of course the image shows up but again you can't add ligting effects.

I want the image to be in this screen and then add lighting effects while i can see the image so I can adjust to how I want it to look.

Can you help ?

Much thanks

D

Have you tried with presets which appears in the Options bar just below menus?
