Update reset my hotkeys... AGAIN!

As per usual, I just updated through the Creative Cloud, and to my great relief... Oh no, no fairytale. It reset my hotkeys (and probably half of my other preferences) once again! Seems like you just should never update this software. And it doesn't transfer installed plugins when updating major versions. Just migrate them, for crying out loud... Adobe, get your update process in line.

Re: Keyboard Shortcuts - When you update major versions, you need to make sure you have Import previous settings and preferences checked to retain the previous settings and preferences for the updated apps.

If you did not migrate your settings and preferences, you can locate the folder for the prior version and move them to the new version. It's also a good idea to create a back up. See the section Backup Photoshop preferences here: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html

Re: Plug-ins -

Third-party and optional plug-ins can be installed to one of two locations:

Version specific location: Will only load the installed plug-in for a specific version of Photoshop (e.g. only Photoshop 2020).
Shared Creative Cloud Location: Will load the plug-in for all installed versions of Photoshop without having to reinstall the plug-in.

If you are using old plug-ins, they likely install in the Version specific location. Most developers with current versions of their plug-ins now install in the Shared Creative Cloud Location.

See the section "Locate plug-in folders" in this document for more details:

I know the update process, when I do these major version updates, I do check the button for it. I did migrate settings and preferences, they stuck. Then I just downloaded some minor version and they were gone again. It's unreliable and inconvenient. Telling people to backup preferences is really useful if their pc crashes, but should not be necessary when the program updates itself. I wish that Adobe would take the update process seriously. It seems like every day there's some new update. Can we get something like a stable release train instead of this experimental nonsense? It's driving me nuts. Regarding the plugins, that's mostly on the AE side, but still, really annoying.

Adobe gives you the ability to turn off automatic updates in the Creative Cloud app. I keep them on for the app itself, but off for the applications so I can update them when I am ready and never in the middle of a project.
