 Will Photoshop CS5 version 12.1x64 be compatible with mac os Catalina.  I have not updated as of yet

No, don't even think about it. You need the latest CC version, which is the only version developed and tested for Catalina. Even that has seen a lot of initial issues, which still aren't fully sorted.

 

Catalina seems to be the most disruptive MacOS version so far.
