Using the brush tool to paint a mask on a windows 10 computer, using Photoshop CS6, I get a plus sign, not a circle

When using Paintbrush tool for painting a layer mask, i get a Plus sign, rather than a circle.

MY current configuration: Photoshop CS6, Windows 10, Windows 10 computer HP workstation.Caps lock is off

Plugs in used ADOBE photoShop Camera Raw, Compuserve GIF, embed water mark, Filer gallerry. open EXR, Read Water mark.

    The Plus ( + ) sign means your cursor is showing a Precise tip and not the Standard brush tip.  Hitting Cap Locks should switch it back if you generally have the Standard chosen.  As Pfaffenbichler mentioned above, you can select your preference via Photoshop > Preferences > Cursors settings?
