V22.1.1 Select Subject, refine edge SUCKS NOW!!!!!

What the hell has happened to refine edge????

I haven't used it in a while as I've been shut down but I go to use it today and refine edge in the select & mask tool is total garbage now.

I have a portrait that I used to click select subject and then refine around the hair. Worked awesome. Now, select subject selects most of the persons head. Refined hair makes it select MORE of the persons head. Refine edge doesn't refine the edge, it creates a hard edge and ignores fine hairs that it used to find with ease.

I'd call into support but I've discovered that Adobe, much like other large corps have outsourced support to areas that have zero knowledge of the product they are supporting and usually just go through the playbook of answers. This equates to a total waste of time.

If you have any ideas I'd appreciate them. Sorry for the rant.

attached is the results of select and mask and using the refine edge tool

Agree. It's now needlesly complex. No longer a quick elegant solution. Someone thought to fix something that wasn't broke, like most of the changes in Phohtoshop, someone was bored and looked for things to muddle with.

After removing all GPU drivers and reinstalling everything I still had the same issues.

Then I noticed something. Save settings was set on Select & Mask. It had the shift edge setting from a previous session weeks ago. It was set to full inside. Resetting all Select & Mask settings seems to have resolved the issues.

I have noticed it's not quite how it used to be though. It now requires a bit more massaging the mask after applying to get the results I  used to get pretty quick.

It took me more time to find a picture with stray hair that I thought would be able to extract then actually extracting the subject.

OK, this is either some kind of bug or the Nvidia drivers v460.89 Studio are causing massive issues.

This is the result of Select Subject, running the refine edge brush over her hair and then cranking the feather up to 456px. This is not right at all.
