Question

Very slow file opening with lots of smart objects

Hi,

I'm working with 200MB file with low-resolution art with lots of layers and smart objects.

In Photoshop CS6, opening takes around 1 min and 20GB space of scratch disks.

In Photoshop CC (the newest version with all the updates) it takes 30 min and around 200GB to open a file. During opening, there're lots of 'Preparing Smart Objects' progressbards.

I'm not using any plugins. I tried most of the tips I found - changed performance/file handling/type settings, disabled antivirus and other software etc. - but nothing helps.

I believe I have not the worst PC ever (quite old i7, SSD, 16GB RAM, GTX 980), so that's quite strange that opening such a small file takes so much time and disk space, especially comparing to CS6.

Maybe you can suggest how can I fix that?

I guess you've tried trashing your Photoshop preferences.

And doing a Save As on your PSD.

Reduced cache tile size and cache levels and now it works much faster.

Quite strange that CC is muuuuch slower that CS6 with the same cache settings.
