Question

what determines which files will show up in "recent files" [All Files Originate From Lightroom]

Some of the files I work on in photoshop and then want to easily access later (after closing) - can be hours or months later - do NOT show up in the recent files.    What determines which files are saved by photoshop as recent files?

I want ALL files I work on to show up later in chronological order.

thanks, Judy

The only circumstance that prevent files showing in the Most Recent list are if Photoshop did not close properly when those files weere open.  The list also doesn't work across versions so if you sometimes use the Beta version, you will not see files from the full release version and vice vesa.

I don't use Lightroom, but I wonder if files opened directly from Lightroom would not be listed?  Especially if they were closed back to Lightroom, if that's how it works.  I am reasonably sure that files saved to the Adobe Cloud still show up.

You need to look for a pattern. Do the non-showing files have anything in common?

FWIIW you can change the number of files that appear in Recent from Preferences > File Handling.

I only use PS 2023.

Almost ALL my files are opened from LR.

They "close" ie are saved to hard drive, not LR (not possible).   LR shows what you have, not a "storage" place.

Never use cloud.

You need to look for a pattern. Do the non-showing files have anything in common?

If I saw a pattern I wouldn't be writing for help.

thanks,

Judy

You just told us the pattern.  i.e. all your files are opened from Lightroom.  As I mentioned, I never use Lightroom, so try starting a thread over there as well.  I'll try and change the subject line to show this is related to Lightroom, which might jog someone's memory.

Usually the last open and a dozen or so show in recent. So if you opened an closed many files since the one you are looking for you will not see it in recents anymore.

Yup. as the word implies- files you have edited "recently". And as you edit 'new' files, the 'old' ones drop off the list.  (Like many other Apps that will only keep 5 or 10 "recent" files in a list.)

For ALL files you would need to organize your files in Adobe Bridge or the OS File Browser.

Regards. My System: Windows-11, Lightroom-Classic 15.1.1, Photoshop 27.3.1, ACR 18.1.1, Lightroom 9.0, Lr-iOS 10.4.0, Bridge 16.0.2 .

By ALL files I mean all RECENT - including the one MOST recently worked on and closed. I’m asking why some go into ‘recent’ and others worked on more recently do NOT get shown.

in the future, to find the best place to post your message, use the list here, https://community.adobe.com/

p.s. i don't think the adobe website, and forums in particular, are easy to navigate, so don't spend a lot of time searching that forum list. do your best and we'll move the post if it helps you get responses.
