What happened to free transform of the elliptical marquee tool?

I can't unfix the proportions/scaling anymore in order to crop a circle or ellipse of my own sizing.  Is there a different tool for this now?   I don't see any new icons and being a coin dealer, being able to crop a circle of my own proportions is quite... important.

Anyone with insights please let me know about a workaround or fix.

Thank you advance,

Michael

If you are using the latest version, look in Preferences > General, and check "Use Legacy Free Transform".

Hi Michael,

Several people are telling you how to return to the legacy method, but no one has specifically said that the default for scaling is for proportional now. Simply don’t use Shift when you scale.

You can’t ”crop” into a circle, as all images are rectangles. If you mean make a selection that is a perfect circle, that hasn’t changed. Start to select, then add Shift to make a circle instead of an ellipse OR set the options bar to a 1 to 1 ratio.

If you are referring to modifying a Selection, check out Select > Transform Selection. Once you have transformed the Selection you can Select > Inverse the Selection and tap the Delete key to clear the area surrounding your Selection. (Not sure you mean to use the word Crop.)

Hi

Hold down shift to unconstrain the aspect ratio. With the latest version 20.0.5 there is a preference in Preferences -General to use the legacy transform method which is holding shift to constrain the aspect ratio , should you prefer it.

The marquee tool is for selecting an area.

The crop tool  is for cropping.
