Question

What is up with the new PS updates?

I have been using Adobe Photoshop for nearly 20 years. All of a sudden, there are some major changes, which are really messing with my productivity. Short Cut keys are totally different for scaling, it now scales proportionally without holding shift key... this is a tough habit to break after so many years of doing it one way, it could make for some drastic mistakes during my workflow.

Also, the lasso tool does not show a outline when using the freeform or strait edged one, I click, then click and I see nothing until the selection is complete, this makes is very very difficult to know what I am doing. Anyone know how to fix this?

When I hit Command+T, there is no bounding box around a layer shape to free transform. I have to turn on layer bounding boxes in order to know what I am doing, but that is not a feature I ever got  use to using so I don't plan on having it on. How do I go back to the way it was before the latest update?

Normally, I can select a layer, hit command+T and hit shift to scale, or free rotate it etc...

I don't know what other surprises there are with the latest update, but I am pretty disappointed that there were some drastic changes, all of a sudden and I keep getting pop up tips and  hints while I work which is also very very distracting. It makes me want to just order a CS5 CD version and just keep that on my system. I don't have time to constantly re learn how to use my software every month because it seems to rapidly change with every update.

I realize that, none of my searches solved the issue however. My point is... why all of a sudden so many drastic changes after so many years? Please post a link to your findings. After nearly 20 years of using shift+drag and command+T and being able to see my lasso tool, or to be able to crop without proportions being constrained etc... it is overwhelming, and takes away from the time I spend working. I work for myself, I don't have a boss to pay me for time I take out of my day to re-learn how to use tools I have used for years. I have done plenty of searching, I simply do not have time to sift through forums right now.

Adobe has been "Modernizing" their apps from UI interface to more functional things like the transform. According to people I've talked with at Adobe, they wanted less keys having to be pressed and more intuitive for new users: keeping aspect ratio, when scaling, and to make the apps more inline with other graphic programs that don't require holding the shift key down to keep aspect ration. Unfortunately, the changes are not uniform, as transforming vectors is still the old way. Their reasoning is that vector art is more often scaled non-proportionally. I strongly disagree with this philosophy, but they seemed to have their minds made up on this, same with many other "improvements."  After using the new scaling for a while, I don't mind not having to hold down the shift key, but it still bugs me that it's not uniform with vector art and cropping. If they wanted to improve how to scale, there are much better ways.
