What's happened to the transform tool? 2018

I downloaded the new photoshop yesterday hoping to get away from that awful pink-woman splashscreen image. That worked. What a relief! Love the new mirror-on-the-shoulder-guy.
BUT when I tried to use the transform tool it would not work properly. I always open it with the keyboard shortcut  (ctrl T) Then I looked for it in the toolbar to try to find it and it has gone altogether. Is that why it does not work properly? I use it all the time and am lost without it.

Transformation has been changed in 2019,

we used to hold down the shift key to maintain the aspect ratio, but now the shift key does the opposite.

BUT why is it not in the toolbox any more? A new user would not find it at all. What are we supposed to use instead? Am I missing something?
I noticed the shift key does not work as it should any more. I wish it would go back to how it was of course. It was like second nature to me that tool. Not any more. But just tell me what I'm supposed to learn in its place and I will try to adjust.
