When choosing SELECT ALL, the selection box does not display in 23.0.2 - How do I resolve this?

The subject says it all, when choosing SELECT ALL, the selection box (the animated ants) does not display in 23.0.2 - How do I resolve this?

If I choose the rectangular marque tool, everything performs as expected. When I choose SELECT ALL (COMMAND A) it appears as if nothing has happened.

Using Mac OS Monterey 12.0.1
