Question

When I try to "save as" or "save a copy" in JPEG format I notice the "layers" option is gone.

This seems to have just started within the last two weeks. I must have updated Photoshop and not realized it and now I'm screwed. When I try to "save as" or "save a copy" in JPEG or PNG format I notice the "layers" option is greyed out in the save dialog box. PS simply combines all the layers into one and I end up losing shadow, depth, saturation, sharpness, etc. In other words I can't save the picture EXACTLY as I made it. I tried using the " Enable Legacy Save As" & "Do Not Append Copy" and NOTHING will work. I can't save a PSD to EXACTLY what I want as a JPEG or PNG so WTF good is Photoshop to me at this point? This is BEYOND frustrating. Any help from the big brains out there wopuld be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to this friendly support forum.

Further to Ged's useful info I would add that in any case, it's good practice to retain your layered PSD file when you create a JPG for file distribution and so on, because you will then be able to make further edits to the layered image should you need to do so. Such edits would often be impossible with a JPG – and that's even more frustrating!

@MaverickWatchReviews JPEG and PNG do not support layers, you'll need to save the file as a TIFF or PSD
