Question

When I unlock a group all the layers in the group remain locked

Hi there,

I'm having a really annoying problem - when I lock and then unlock a group, all the layers in the group remain locked.  I then have to go through and unlock them one by one.  I'm sure this inst the default functionaily - I've been locking and unlocking groups for years without the layers themselves being locked once the group is unlocked!

Can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong?

Many thanks in advance

Hi there,

Sorry that the layers are not getting unlocked after you lock/unlock a layer group in Photoshop. Could you please let us know the version of Photoshop you're using?

Now, at the top of the Layers Palette, just above the upper Layer, there are several attributes for Locking, and the one at the far-right of that set of icons is the padlock (Lock All Attributes). When you click on those icons, the Locking is not removed. Is that correct? Now, since one has the ability to Lock individual attributes, like Transparency, one might have to click on each, depending on how the creator did the Locking. When an attribute is Locked, its icon will appear as depressed. Clicking on that should remove that Lock, for that attribute. Is this not working in your files?

Thanks,

Akash

Hi Akash,

Thanks for the reply, the version I am using is 20.0.1

After a bit of experimentation it seems that if I lock a group I can unlock it and the layers unlock as expected.

If I lock a group, then turn off visability, then turn visability back on and unlock the group, the layers within remain locked.

Please update to the latest version 20.0.5 of Photoshop and see if the issue still persists.
