When Moving a Group of Layers, the Image Disappears in Photoshop 21.1.3 on macOS Catalina

Hi

I'm using Photoshop 21.1.3 and Mac Catalina. I'm working on large files with many layers and groups for a children's book.  

When i move some of the groups around the page, the group image temporarily disappears. 

I've switched on the Legacy compositing but that hasn't worked.

I'm also finding that text disappears when i try to edit it.

 

Any help would be most appreciated.

    THIS IS STILL HAPPENING!!! Adobe neeeds to fix it. Multiple versions and operating systems, multiple version of photoshop. WTF is going on???? FIX IT!!!!!

      Can you update to the last way photoshop? Version 22.4.3?

      I'm always up to date and the issue is still an ongoing headache. It's 100% reproduceable. I can NOT drag more than 2 layers at once without them disappearing. How is this not fixed? It's literally been years with no actual answer, just more "have you updated Photoshop." It's the IT equivalent of asking, "Have you tried shutting it off and turning it back on again?" 

      Someone please actually try to fix this.

        Hey everyone! I found a potential fix for you all. I had this exact same problem, and resseting my photoshop preferences fixed the issue.

        When starting up photoshop press and hold Command-Option-Shift (Mac) or Ctrl-Alt-Shift (Windows). That should reset your photoshop preferences and settings

        (Do keep in mind, youll have to fix all your settings and tabs all over again which is a pain, but it did work for me)

          I've been having this problem for a long time now as well.
          Please fix this, it makes PS borderline unusable!


          I'm on Windows 10, Geforce 2080 Super, Cintiq 24HD

          Nvidia drivers and Windows and Photoshop up to date (22.4.2).
          Disabling Hardware Acceleration does nothing, so this issue doesn't seem to be related to the GPU anyway.
          And it happens on Windows as well as Mac...

          FYI, it is the end of June, 2021, and am still having the very same issue. Absolutely frustrating. Please fix this as I am sure we are not the only ones having this stupid, annoying problem. (Yes, I have tried all the suggestions. Nothing works.)

          I'm also experiencing the same issue. when move artboard or layer group around. some layers get locked in previous position and gets lost. @Sahil.Chawla  can you provide a solve? looks like a bug in the software

          I've been monitoring this issue for months in hopes the software we're all paying for gets fixed.

          I just updated to 22.1.1, on Windows, and this major redraw bug still persists.

          Doesn't matter if the "Use Graphics Processor" option in prefs is checked or not.

          This issue renders the current version of Photoshop unusable for me. To get work done, I use 20.0.10.

           

          The issue:

          In certain common scenarios while simply moving multiple raster layers together with the Move Tool, those layers can completely or partially "disappear" - Photoshop decides to not draw them.

           

          To reproduce the issue:

          --Select multiple raster layers that are adjacent in the canvas and "alone" in the layer stack. (I know this sounds ambiguous - see video demo below.) Doesn't matter if they're in a layer group.

          --Zoom out to 50% or further.

          --Move selected layers with Move Tool.

          --Layers (in some cases) may stop being drawn correctly and user must make a change or alter zoom level in order to see them again.

          Notice the zoom level and actions taken and what results you see on the canvas.

          Photoshop's redraw/caching operations have gone horribly awry in certain cases. Similar to layer styles changing in appearance per your zoom level (yet another bug that remains unfixed).

           

          All "workarounds" posted are not workarounds at all - they're massive workflow compromises and are not remotely acceptable for any serious, paying Adobe customer who needs Photoshop to function as expected in order to get work done.

           

          Wouldn't it be nice if Photoshop functioned as well as the recent, pretentiously gimmicky, overly-idealized Adobe Cloud ad compaigns suggest it does?

            Hi Janee,

            Sorry to hear about the image disappearing in Photoshop, could you try updating Photoshop to version 21.2.3 through the Creative Cloud Desktop app and see how it goes?

            Could you please try deselecting "Use Graphics Processor" located in Photoshop's Preferences > Performance, then relaunch Photoshop and let us know if it helps?

            Hi Sahil, thanks for replying. Unfortunately that hasn't worked.

             

            When i merge the group, it doesn't happen but I need to be able to keep some groups unmerged.

            I also am having this same problem... Has a solution been discovered because this is completly broken? I am now using 21.2.3 as well and started encountering this problem immediatly. I had been using 20.0.10 to avoid all these new bugs in the newer versions but that version is no longer compatable with my Wacom device and I had to update. Is there a version between 20.0.10 and 21.2.3 that doesn't have this issue?
