Ok, So I am getting really tired of Photosh

Photoshop is deleting my files while I am trying to work on them. I open a raw NEF file. I make my modifications, and then when I go to press open, it is greyed out. Ok, so I close it and try to reopen it. Now the file is gone. It has been removed from my SD card completely. Thanks Photoshop for deleting my prized photo. It seems like it is always my best pictures too. This has happened about 5 times now, and I am sick of it.

Is there any way to stop Photoshop from deleting my files while I am trying to work on them? I just dont understand why Photoshop would do this, this is absurd.

Any one else have this problem or any ideas to stop it. I just now lost the best photo I took in my last photographic outing. My prized photo is now gone. Thanks Adobe.

I do not save them to my harddrive until I have made my edits. Then eventually when the SD card fills up I will put copy it all to a backup folder.

That's part of your issue and a really bad, dangerous workflow (if I can be so kind): COPY everything from the SD card to a hard drive then open/edit and save back to that HD.

It's not clear how you are transferring the files from your SD card to your Hard Drive before you edit them. Also, are you editing the raw files in ACR or Photoshop?

Hi @defaultkr0u0iqee4si

Adobe Technical Support only supports using Photoshop on a local hard disk.

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/networks-removable-media-photoshop.html

From the Help file at the link above:

"When you save and open files across a network or from removable media, many variables affect application performance. Therefore, some problems occur more frequently when you work across a network or from removable media than from a local hard disk.

...

"Technical Support strongly recommends working in Photoshop directly on the local hard disk. To prevent data loss, save files to your hard disk first. Then transfer them to the network or removable drive in the Finder or in Windows Explorer. To retrieve files, copy them in the Finder or in Windows Explorer from the network or removable drive to your hard disk. You can then open the files in Photoshop. This workflow avoids problems that occur when network system setups or removable media device drivers are incompatible with the operating system or Photoshop."
