Where do autorecovery files go after I close the PSD file without saving it?

Photoshop CS6 - Windows 10

I've been working on my project, didn't save it, put my computer to sleep, and then windows decided to update while I was away. I then opened photoshop and saw that all of the previously opened files have recovered and opened by themselves except for one. I went and looked through the "AutoRecover" folder (C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6\AutoRecover) and did not see it there either. So, my question is: when an auto-recovery file disappears from the AutoRecover folder, where does it go? I assume it doesn't go into the recycling bin as I did not find anything similar looking there. I don't seem to understand how this system works and I will gladly appreciate your help. Thank you very much in advance!

To put it another way: 

Imagine if I create a new file, then wait for it to autosave, it autosaves successfully and the auto-recovery of this file appears in the directory C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6\AutoRecover. Then, when I close this file without manually saving it as an actual PSD, the autosave version will disappear from the "AutoRecover" folder. Where does it go from there?
