Question

Where has advanced workspace gone?!

Did Adobe do away with the advanced workspace in their last update? Now all I can find are project specific workspaces like 3D etc. The stuff I work on incorporates lots of different elements and I need to keep switching between workspaces to access the tools I need. Any advice appreciated - Google didn't yield anything...

The advanced workspace if the name of the workspace you are referring to is advanced I do not think its one that Adobe has ever provided. If you downloaded it or created it did  you migrate your preset when you install the latest Photoshop version.

The ones in red are Adobe's

    Hi

What do you mean by advanced workspace, Photoshop comes with standard workspace's and you can create, modify and save your own custom workspace's, which can be found in this loaction

C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2018\Adobe Photoshop CC 2018 Settings

C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2019\Adobe Photoshop CC 2019 Settings

From Adobe  I see these Essentials (default must be built into Photshop.exe) Typography.psw from CC 2014 looks like it was dropped.
