Where is my created pattern in blending options?

So I followed the instructions on how to create a pattern (though as usual their instructions didn't fully cover it), but where is the pattern? Opening up Texture in Blending Options still only shows the stock patterns.

I can get to it by using the Patterns window, but then how do I use my own patterns without it simply placing the image over the layer/text? Using a Pattern in Blending options just gives the pattern itself, not the color and stuff. 

I hope I made this make sense.
