Why can I no longer 'copy merged' a post from photoshop into illustrator?

Hi,

I usually alter an image in photoshop then copy merge into illustrator with no problem. Today it just won't allow it!

Firstly a notice appeared once I'd hit copy merged and tried to open illustrator, it said along the lines of file too big. I looked into this and unchecked 'export clipboard' in photoshops general prerferences which allowed me to at least open illustrator with no pop up. Now I'm into illustrator the paste option is greyed out and I can't get any further.

Has anyone had this problem before and know what to do?

I'm using PS v 20.0.10 and Ai v 23.1.1

Many thanks,

Gemma.

I usually just drag and drop and from PS to AI. A better way is to copy your PS file into your Libraries and then pull it out from the library in AI. No clipboard needed.
