My PS version: Adobe Photoshop Version: 21.0.2 20191122.r.57 2019/11/22: e3e4068e635 x64

Hi Mikael,

The squares are known as artefacts and they appear either due to a bad graphics card or bad graphics drivers.
Could you please try deselecting "Use Graphics Processor" located in Photoshop's Preferences > Performance, then relaunch Photoshop and let us know if it helps?

Also, you may try updating the graphics drivers from the manufacturer's wbesite and see how it goes.

You can check this article for more information on this: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/troubleshoot-gpu-graphics-card.html

Regards,
Sahil

After you deselected "Use Graphics Processor" did you restart Photoshop? If not, try that to see if it makes a difference.
