Ok... I have held onto an old version of desktop OS so I can run the expensive desktop disk version of CS6. I thought maybe I was being silly and when I got a new macbook I decided to give the subscription version a try and I am left wondering anyone uses this app when it functions so poorly? Maybe apple knew something we didn't when it broke up with adobe?

All I need to do is to colour correct some images I shot yesterday and then resize them for insertion into an AI print document. I went to a coffee shop bc this OUGHT to be simple. Very basic stuff. I selected the area to tweak (hands that looked a bit too yellowish next to a blue object) so I selected the hands and chose hue/saturation and IT CHANGED THE SATURATION OF THE ENTIRE IMAGE!! Oh goodie.

Now... What is the point of selection tools if the app is too stupid to utilize them? Why would I select an area if I wanted to change the whole thing? If selecting an area does not trigger some function that tells this heap of poop that I want to, oh, you know, WORK ON THAT AREA... what does? What does one need to do to actually work on an isolated area of the image?  Seriously, what does the selection tool DO if not tell the app I am sort of interested in working right the [Profanity removed by moderator - please keep your language civil] there??

I am so mad I could spit. I never got a live person to answer this question. I had to select the area, copy and paste it in and then alter it as a separate layer. That is absurd but I had no choice. I looked... I don't see any options for telling this stupid thing that I want to work on what I just selected... and if there was I'd still want to know what else it thought a selection was for...

I would really like to know why any of you stick with this crap. I will be unsubscribing as soon as I deliver this project and going back to a reliable version... the disk one that they can't screw up. I am also going shopping for a new design suite altogether as this is just crapware now.

It works correctly here in V21.0.3 in either of the following ways:

1. Making a selection and then choosing Image > Adjustments >Hue /Saturation. Only the selected area is adjusted.

or

2. Making a selection and adding a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer. The adjustment layer is added with a mask so that only the selected area is adjusted.

How did you make your selection, and was that selection visible when you went to make the adjustment? Full screen screenshots would help.

What exact version are you using - To check use Help > System info

When you have active selection Photoshop will automatically create layer mask with Adjustment layer like Hue/Saturation. It works just fine from my testing. Which exactly version of Photoshop you are running? That info can be helpful and for others to test.

Back to problem:

  • Do you see marching ants after creating selection?
  • Do you see layer mask next to Hue/Saturation icon in the Layers panel? Perhaps it is best option to post screenshot with Layers panel visible.
