Why does Photoshop path move when I actually want to change its shape?

I have a simple rectangle path and want to increase its height. But when I select the path with the black-arrowed Path Selection Tool (A) and try to drag the height, the tool moves the path instead of extending its height. I’ve tried using the white-arrowed Direct Selection Tool (A) instead, but it makes no difference. Whatever I do, I can’t change the height of the path with the Path Selection Tool.

I used to be able to do this...

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

Yes, you want the white arrow, not the black one.

It is possible to do it from move tool or transformation.

    Thanks everyone.

Thanks Chuck for reminding me that it’s the white arrow (Direct Selection Tool (A)) that I need, not the black one.

Thanks, Bojan. The Free Transform Path (Ctrl+T) also works.

i wasn’t able to adjust the path using the Move tool (V)...

Bizarrely, the  Direct Selection Tool (A) worked correctly when I turned my PC on this morning, whereas it wasn’t yesterday. It seems glitchy... Anyway, now I can change the height of the path.

Yes but with the first single click on a line segment the white arrow tool select the whole Path like the black arrow tool.  IMO  It should only select the line segment and the two control points on the line segemnt ends.

I find if switch to the direct selection tool and click on a line segment the whole Path will be selected and if you drag the whole path will move.  However, If you drag out a rectangle with the direct select tool  or click on a control point the whole path will not be selected and you can work on the parts selected.

Seems to have an Identity crises with the single click on a line thinks its the path selection tool

I can't remember if this could be done in past versions but it works when using the move tool or using a transformation function.

Not sure how to resize path using the Move tool but it certainly works with Free Transform Path command.
