Question

Will legal copy of CS5 or CS6 work on 2019 Imac with Mojave?

I'm currently using CS5.1 on my 2010 iMac, however, I just purchased a 2019 iMac. Wondering when I undertake a data migration to the new computer if CS5.1 will continue to work in the new machine? Ideally, I'd like to get the last hard copy of PS (CS6) installed on the new iMac rather than subscribe to Adobe's service. I plan on retiring from my photography career as early as a year from now so I don't care to pay in perpetuity for software I'll use much less regularly going forward.

Any experience in this regard, or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Ray

CS5 does not run on MacOS Catalina. Trying to figure out how to uninstall it now that uninstallers won't even open.

If you are retiring, you could always look at just the Photoshop Photography Plan. It's $9.99/mo which is much more palettable compared to the full CC suite.

Another option often overlooked is Photoshop Elements. It's perpetual (no subscription) and is very powerful in it's own rights with editing/color correction, etc.

Photoshop cs6 seems to work pretty well on macOS Mojave. On the other hand i would not use photoshop CS5.1 as it has major issues running on Mojave.

To install cs6 on Mojave follow the instructions here:

    https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/install-creative-suite-mac-os-sierra.html

Another consideration is your probably going to be stuck with Mojave as the just released macOS Catalina 10.15 won't run 32 bit applications and even though cs5.1/cs6 are 64 bit themselves, many of the other components and installers are 32 bit so installing on Catalina may prove difficult and may not run satisfactorily if you did get them to install.

Hi Jeff, I appreciate your help! As stated in my other response to this thread I may need to opt for the subscription model unless I can find a good copy of CS6 for a reasonable price. Since CS5.1 is unlikely to run on my new iMac with Mojave, or Catalina I may be forced to subscribe.

You wont find CS6 on the open market. No resellers carry it anymore. If you do find a copy buyer beware. You can read up on the forums here of folks getting invalid codes or worse malware (yes including Mac).

First, do not use Data Migration to move applications to a new system. It never works well and you are just taking a long road to the inevitable uninstall and reinstall to fix.

That being said, this page should help for CS6.

    https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs6-install-instructions.html

and here are instructions and resources for downloading CS5.

Thanks kstohlmeyer1. According to some, I may need to upgrade to CS6 in order for Photoshop to work on my 2019 iMac with Mojave. My current 2010 iMac runs CS5.1 on Sierra without any issues. Locating a legitimate copy of CS6 for purchase could be challenging. Apparently, 90% of the copies on eBay are bootleg/pirated, etc. and the s/n won't work so they can't be registered when logging into Adobe's site. As much as I would prefer running CS6 over the subscription service I may have little choice. Always some risk in buying software off eBay unless there's other places to purchase legal copies at a fair premium.
