Will photoshop run on old Macbook pro?

A friend is selling this macbook pro for a very good price (considering how much a macbook is here in Brazil) and she used to use it for programming, and i wonder if it can run Photoshop smooth enough for me to work. I know nothing about macbooks although i know enough about computer pieces (gaming computers) to know that those specs aren't good for a regular pc. Can it run photoshop? If i can also do a little on after effects would be great, but photoshop is already good enough.
