Work around for Auto select turning on when I press ALT CTRL drag to copy and move object

When I want to move a very small object all the way across the page and copy it at the same time I can no longer hold down ctrl + Alt and drag the object.  When I hold down CTRL + ALT and drag Auto Select turns on ? when I do not want it to turn on.  Adobe has made changes and they added a checkbox so I can work as usuall until now - now when I try to copy it copies other things that I do not want it to.  I do not want Photoshop to turn on auto select when I attempt to copy.

Anyone know how to turn Autoslect off all the way ?   Or Does anyone know how to copy an object without haveing to manually do it ?  Anyone know for what purpose Auto Select turns on when I hold down ALT CRTL ?  That is the shortcut to copy a object -  It shows double headed arrows when I hold down CRTL + ALT So why is Auto Select turning on with this key combination ?

Don’t you mean alt-shift? Edit: Sorry, shift is only necessary to constrain the angle, the alt-key alone should suffice for duplicating a Layer by dragging …

Edit: I work on Mac but usually Window’s ctrl corresponds to Mas’s cmd and that is intended to invoke auto-select temporarily.
