Save button suggestions

Question

I am enjoying using the updated version of Photoshop Express on Windows but I do not like the Save button's default behaviour. Save As should be the default behaviour, having Save overwrite the original image without warning is not a good idea in my opinion. I always want keep my original images.

Save As should save the edited photo inside the original folder alongside the original image and add a suffix to the filename (e.g. _edited, _copy, _#).

Photoshop Express should not ask if I want to Save my edit after I have already used Save As. It is a bit annoying to have to click No every time I want to select a new image or exit the program after I have already Saved my edit with Save As.

Thank you for sharing your feedback! We understand how important it is to preserve original images and streamline the saving process.

Currently, the default Save option does overwrite the original file, but we can definitely see how having Save As as the default behavior — or adding an option to choose your preferred default — would be helpful.

I've shared your suggestion with our product team so they can consider it for future updates.

I would like to report the same issue, which unfortunately still appears to be unresolved.

I recently installed Adobe Express Photo on my Windows PC. I opened three JPEG photos directly from an SD card, edited them, and clicked “Save”, expecting either to save my edits or to be asked whether I wanted to overwrite the original files.

Instead, the application silently overwrote the original photos on the SD card, without any warning or confirmation and without offering an obvious “Save As” option.

Unfortunately, I lost the original versions of three photographs taken during a recent trip to Rome. I tried using file recovery software, including PhotoRec, but the original image data could not be recovered because it had apparently been overwritten.

This is particularly concerning when working directly with photos stored on removable media, where the originals may be irreplaceable.

As already reported in this discussion, “Save” should not silently overwrite the original file without warning. At the very least, the application should display a confirmation dialog before overwriting an existing image. Ideally, “Save a Copy” or “Save As” should be the default behaviour, preserving the original file.

Could Adobe please clarify whether this behaviour is intentional and whether a fix is planned?

Users should not have to risk permanently losing their original photographs simply by using the standard Save command.
