Adding menu markers in Premiere Elements v2021

I am learning by reading SG's book and doing different things
https://www.amazon.com/Muvipix-com-Guide-Adobe-Premiere-Elements/dp/B08KQ9L1ZY/

For my latest family video on DVD I wanted to be able to 'play all' or start the video near the beginning or at a point about half way through

I had never added menu markers before so I started in SG's book on page 250 and found out that it is very easy to add named markers for main or scene menu(s)

I didn't want a separate scene menu for only 2 options so I added Main Menu markers

Place CTI where I wanted a marker and Click MARKERS just above timeline on the left
Select MENU MARKER in the pop up window, this will open a new window
Enter marker name (name shows on menu) & marker type (main menu marker for my video)

I UN-Checked the default 'add scene markers' option when I selected a menu, so the program did not automatically add a scene marker at every new video file on the timeline... this video was made up of several video files taken at different times, so there would have been over a dozen scene markers

When I started testing a few of the menu options I discovered that not all menus worked with main menu markers (I don't have a list, I just tried several menus)

When I did find a menu that would use main menu markers to add a named option to the menu I found out that the program actually added a second 'main' menu with arrows to go back and forth between the 2 menus

That isn't what I wanted so I went back to the timeline... I decided that the 'early' video could just play when the regular play option was selected

After 'remove all' markers and adding back only my 'part two' marker the menu recoded itself so now the play button plays to and through my 'part one' and if I want to jump directly to part two it works

Good job done by Steve to explain, and the program for doing what I want

I made myself curious so I created a new project with video clips from 4 folders

First set of clips were at the start so didn't need a marker

Next 3 sets of clips had a named scene marker at the start of each set

Used the POPCORN menu because it has the PLAY and SCENES buttons nicely lined up under the title

-found that I had to manually change the title of the scenes menu

Everything works as it should, including an option at the top of scenes to return to the main menu

Thanks for the compliments on the book, John.

Unfortunately Premiere Elements has a very limited DVD Authoring system. (In fact, it was discontinued in 2023.) As far as I know you can only add one Main Menu scene marker to the main page of your DVD menu. If you try to add more, you can a scene menu page.

Is that what you're experiencing?

Yes... for my quick DVD I only wanted to be able to jump to about the middle, so one option on the main menu works

Another day, when I have a family or vacation video where I have more than one 'section' that I may want to jump to I will read about scene markers and sub-menus

Added... since I **DO** want to create a DVD to share with family (non-tech people who are able to put a DVD in a player to watch on TV but would be lost trying to explain plugging a flash drive into the TV) Version 2021 does what I need... and it runs well on my Win11 computer
