APE 10 worked one day, then stopped the next.

Adobe Premiere Elements 10. Win 7 64 bit. i7, 16 GB RAM

Yesterday, I edited several videos with APE 10.  Today, when I clicked on the .prel, APE loaded but then gave me the 'crash' message that "Adobe Premiere Elements 10 has stopped working."   Furthermore, I get the same crash message on all .prel files that I click (I have hundreds).  I can open a new APE 10 without a crash. But when I save it, e.g., test.prel, close APE then run test.prel, that too gives me the same crash message. I've changed the default setting, saved, but always the new .prel crashes. I've rebooted the computer several times, in both the 'Restart' and 'Shut down' modes.  Nothing changes.  The only programs that ran between yesterday and today were the usual daily checks of SEP and Malwarebytes.  What's going on? Thanks.

Premiere Elements 10 is pretty old software. Have you tried running it in Windows 7 Compatibility mode?

Great suggestion, Steve.  Altho the 2.6 GB file took a long time to install, once I ran it, then closed it, my old APE 10 worked.  Hopefully, it will work after rebooting.

RE: BTW, have you been editing for the past 6 years with Premiere Elements 10? If not, why are you only now installing it? Not sure what you're asking. I've had it installed forever.

Try updating or rolling back your video driver directly from the video card manufacturer's site.

Thanks for the suggestion, Peru Bob. If the APE 18 trick doesn't work, I'll try the video driver approach.

You're using a pretty old version of the program on a pretty old operating system.

As an experiment, download the free trial of Premiere Elements 2018 and see if it opens and runs on your system.

BTW, have you been editing for the past 6 years with Premiere Elements 10? If not, why are you only now installing it?

Steve, on day 2, after rebooting, PE 10 once again crashed with the message that "Adobe Premiere Elements 10 has stopped working."   I ran PE 18, exited, still PE 10 crashed. I uninstalled then reinstalled PE 18, but PE 10 still crashes. So I started using PE 18, but I’m not happy with it.  First, it doesn’t read the audio files of .vob files (I have lots of them). Secondly, it doesn’t allow me to customize the output format, as does PE 10; so I can’t get rid of the black bars on the default outputs. Oy, is this progress??
