audio does not match video

I am using Premier Elements 2020. I have several clips where the audio is not from the video clip. I have a Christmas morning video clip, but the audio is from the high school graduation clip. The two clips were downloaded months apart and placed on the time line at diffeent times. If I open the clips at any point before I place them on the timeline, the audio and video match. As soon as they reach the time line, the audios are reversed. This same problem has occurred on several previous videos, including videos created with an earlier version of Premier Elements on a different computer. Other Christmas clips and graduation clips in the same video do not have this problem.

I am somewhat of a novice. I am not finding the Media Cache Files. I have Premiere Elements 2020. I do not have Premiere Pro. that may be making the difference.

Go to C\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common\Peak Files (you'll need to enable Show All Files in your Explorer/Folder Options to see these files) and delete the .pek files for your video clips

Do the clips have the same file name?

If not:

  1.  Close Premiere. You can use a keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Q (Mac: Cmd + Q).
  2.  Doubleclick on the Premiere Pro icon to open the program.
  3. Hold Alt + Shift (Mac: Option + Shift). It should clear Preferences and Cache.

The clips do have the same number. Can I simply renumber one set? Thank you for your rapid and very useful advice!

Yes.  Then relink the media and delete the Media Cache and Media Cache files:
