Audio not working on Premiere Elements 15

When I import AVCHD files into premiere elements 15 the audio is not working/importing. Any idea how to troubleshoot this? Have used the software without problems before so not sure why it isn't working now but have tried a number of times and getting the same result/

How long is your video? I've never heard of Handbrake overloading before.

As an experiment, download HandBrake (it's free) and use to to convert one of your videos to a 1920x1080 30 fps MP4. Load it to your timeline and see if it plays sound.

I downloaded this and tried to convert the video but it didn't work - maybe because the clip is so long? It took about 4 hours only to say 'encode failed'

Thanks so much for your continued help though!

Is this several reports from several different video sources?

Besides the photos, are you saying that none of the audio on any of these videos plays in the program?

They do seem to share the common format AC3 (Dolby Digital).

Sorry I'm not entirely sure - i think because the clip is over an hour long it has automatically been split into 3 or so clips. I selected the AVCHD file and that text is what came up.

Yes when I put them into premiere there is no audio, both when I preview them and when I put them into the timeline. When I put them into the timeline there is no waveform appearing. The audio is definitely there though as it plays if I open the AVCHD file in Quicktime.

What operating system are you  using?

What model of camcorder is your video coming from?

Does other audio (music for instance) that you've added to your timeline play okay?

Open one of your videos in the free download MediaInfo. In MediaInfo, set View to Text and then copy the text that appears and paste it to this forum. Once we know the specs of your video (and your operating system) we'll be better able to advise you.

While working on answering Steve's questions, try making changes to the  Edit > Preferences > Audio Hardware page.  Sometimes those setting mysteriously change themselves.
