Can I delete and close gap in one step?

(I'm using 2021, version 19.)

In the expert mode, if I create a clip in the middle of my timeline, then right click it, Delete and Close Gap is not an option, so I choose Delete.  That leaves a gap which I then have to right click, at which time I can Delete and Close Gap.

Is there a more efficient way to do this?

Correct answer Steve Grisetti

Mine is not greyed out like yours.  I can only guess that it is because your's needs timeline rendering, you have not standard clips, your project settings don't match the source clips or ???.  I can only guess!

Delete and Close Gap will not be available if you have audio or video on a parallel track that prevents an actual gap in the timeline. Is there something on an upper video track?

The other possibility is that you're deleting media from Track 2. The program's timeline ripple is built around Track 1. If you move your media down to that track, it will certainly delete and close gap.

Also, the Delete key on your keyboard usually deletes and closes gap -- but the Backspace key will always delete and close gap, unless there's video or audio on a parallel track.

Steve, thank you for those keyboard shortcuts.
Bill, I'm posting a screen shot.  I've cut the timeline and right clicked on the small segment.  Delete and Close Gap is not available to me.  I'd love to know a better way.

On my computer, "Delete and Close Gap" works.  So to figure it out, can you provide some screen shots or more information?
