Can't ripple trim title in 2018?

This doesn't appear to be working for me in 2018 the ripple trim cursor is disabled. Is this a bug or something I'm doing wrong? I can trim it as a project asset but not on the timeline.

Trim an individual title instance from the Expert view timeline

  • In the Expert view timeline, locate the title to be trimmed in one of the video tracks. You might need to drag the video track scroll bar to expose the title.

  • Hover the cursor over either end of the title until it changes to the ripple trim cursor . Then drag the end of the title to trim it. Gaps are closed automatically. If you created a black video clip for your title, you’ll need to trim that too.

To trim without closing the gap, Ctrl-drag/Cmd-click the clip end instead.

That's correct, Andrew. Motion titles are fixed length, due to their animation.

To output a movie to be used as media in another project in version 2018, your best bet is Export & Share/Devices/Computer 1920x1080 MP4.

I'm not sure exactly what's going on, Andrew. But the ripple function on the Video 1 track should function exactly the same whether you're trimming a video, photo or title.

If your title is on Video 2 or another track, trimming it won't affect the other tracks or ripple your timeline.

    Does that answer you question?

Glad to be able to help a fan!

Here's what I discovered; you can't trim "motion" titles in the timeline. You can trim them as an asset in the preview window and that changes all iterations of it in the project however, "classic" titles can be trimmed in the timeline. Adobe may want to make that clear in the manual.

I think I'm all set on that one but as long as I have your attention Steve, if I want to use an edited "movie" from one project in another project, what's the best format to save it in so I can add it as a media file?

    Thanks,

    Andrew

Hey, Steve, big fan of yours thanks for the reply. My video is on track one. I can ripple trim a text "clip" on another track but not a title. Not a big deal but was surprised to see it disabled.

    Thanks

Ripple trim is primarily on the Video 1 track. Is that the track your title is on?
