Change VOB to a WMV , MP4 or AVI file

Okay I am trying to change my VOB file and am looking for a free converter as this will be a one time project. I downloaded VLC for Windows and it converted the file but the quality was extremely poor. It was faded and the image "jumped" and pixelated. I then downloaded a program from MOVAI and the quality was great but ----- they wanted me to buy the program and I didn't want to do that for a one time project.

I am thinking that I get what a "pay for" or don't pay for, it there any other solution to this project?

I can't do an img burn as the quality of the disk has deteriorated and won't play through the whole way. So I am trying to do a work around without having to redo the whole project.  That is why I would like to be able to convert the file that I already have. Thanks
