Color Improvement for digitized video

I'm apparently unable to upload video here, but I was interested in suggestions for improving video I digitized from a 1980's vhs tape that is very dark.  It is a dance routine in a dark club with smoke effects.  I usually use Auto Smart Tone and Apply it and then when its done I use custom and judge by eye how much adjustment is required to render an image based on black being black, skin tone, white color etc.  But for this one I was curious if exploring other elements like color, color correction, gamma and lighting might be worth the extra time and effort to learn how to use them.?

Each video poses its own challenges and may behave differently than others with the same effects applied.

Give it a try and see what happens.

Thanks for the reply.  I checked each one of the individual settings such as Color, Gamma. Lighting. T&T and they didn't help much.  So I ran the "SmartFix" auto-analyze that I usually skip because it takes so long and that rendered some improvement.  So I saved that version.  But when I went back to run the "Auto SmartTone" that I normally use , it wouldn't give me the grid with the four quadrants so I could manually pick the most pleasing to my eye rendering.  Even though I had reset the SmartFix settings back to the original video.  I can't recall ever having this happen before.  I have a dropbox account so I could upload the files there if that is helpful.
