Do images have to be the same?

I am about to make a video of a group of images. Do the images have to be the same aspect ratio?Do they have to be the same resolution?

No and no.  But, remember that a video project typically matches the "ratio" of a screen or TV.  So, images can have black borders or end up "cropped".  Be sure you set up the project manually.  Normally your want a 1920x1080p at 30 fps.  It should help to check the box for "Default scale to frame size" and what you want for the default duration in Edit > Preferences > General.

Usually images do not match standard video settings. so they mostly end have showing black bars on the sides (pillarboxing).

When image is dropped on timeline, Premiere elements automatically picks up the closest project setting (If "Force selected project setting on this project" is Not checked while creating a new project)

Images can be of different Aspect Ratio & resolution. However each image might have some area as black bars depending upon the difference in Aspect ratio with the project
