dual channel import

Question

I shot a two hour video using a Cannon XA30 camcorder that records in MP4 format. It records both left and right channel as separate audio. When I imported this file into my Elements Premier 15, it lumped both audio channels into one!  I need to keep the left and right channels separate until burn time then merge into stereo.  Which program should I use to do this? My older version of Premier elements used to do that, but alas no more.

Steve is right. You may need more robust software for a camcorder that uses XLR inputs separately.

That said there are some differences in Premiere Elements audio tracks I don't yet fully understand. One of my cameras has Dolby 5.1 recording. It behaves differently on upper Video/Audio tracks than on Video 1.

The other approach would be Adobe's Audition software or the (free) Audacity program for manipulating the audio track.

Can you be more specific about how and where the tracks are recorded in the MP4 file? Can you provide a screen shot of what the "lumped audio" looks like?

Have you tried to vertically expand the audio track? When I expand my audio tracks recorded in stereo I see both channels. Collapsed, I see "lumped".
