Getting rid of echo in audio narration.

I'm new to Premier Elements. In Expert mode - Tools - Audio - Narration, I get an echo during playback after recording with my new Asus Vivobook's built-in mic. Is there a setting I should use on PE or the notebook to stop this? On my previous PC mic with a different video editor I didn't have this problem.

Is the echo only in Premiere Elements or do you hear the echo when you play the narration in a third party audio player?

A built-in microphone is probably not the best device to use for recording quality audio. Echoes are common, and if you get an echo in your original recording, it's hard to remove it.

But a good quality USB microphone will give you much better sound for only a few dollar investment. Here's one of my personal favorites.

I haven't exported it yet so will have to see if it's got the echo in the PC audio playback or not. I expect it will be since it is in the playback while still in PE. I tried originally recording without headphones plugged in and got the echo. Then I tried with headphones and the narration did not record. I'll try with an external mic as you suggest but first I need to get more familiar with tutorials on how to get my settings and preferences correct and how to actually use all the audio options. Please let me know if you know of any good video tutorial for beginners that describe audio and narration settings. I'll get back to you after I know better what I'm doin in PE. Thanks.
