How do I control the speed of a fade in of text?

I have a 4 second long clip and I need the text to fade in. But the issue is that the text takes far too long to fade in and I am unsure how to make it happen within the first .5 seconds of the clip.

Also, anyone know how to add a border to text without changing the font?

To control the fade, move the keyframe dots. Can you post a screenshot of the text/border question? I'm not sure what you mean.
