Question

how to create a slide show using the project assests method?

I am trying to create a slide show containing both video clips and still images (JPEG's).  I am using the project assests method to attempt this.  It will not allow me to edit the clip by slicing out unwanted segments.  Any suggestions on best way to construct slide show with both video clips and still image?

Thanks

What do you mean by slicing out unwanted segments.

Good morning, Ann,

Thank you very much for your quick response!  Sorry I wasn't clear on my intial post.
I am working in Expert mode. Actually I have 2 issues:

1.  When I add images (JPEG's) to the Project Assests panel and then drag and drop them onto Video 1 time line, the program seems to cut off the right and left edges of the images with a black line.  The app did not do this when I first began using it several days ago.  I have attached a screen shot trying to illustrate this.  I don't know if I inadvertedly changed a setting or what.

2. This screen shot also is in Expert mode.  I have entered the "create slide show" mode by right clicking on the selected images displayed in the Project Assets window to create a show containing both still images and video clips.  I again encountered the problem of the stills being cut off at the right and left edges.  Also, is it possible to "slice out" segments of an individual clip to make it shorter and remove unneeded portions?  Last night when I placed the first post, it didn't let me do that.  However, this morning it does seem to be working??  (Embarrassed)  So I guess I have answered by own question that it is possible to slice out sements of  a video clip after it has been added to the time line in a slide show?

Thank you very much for your help.

I normally work in the Expert mode where cuts are visible on clips and what you want should be easy.  Perhaps I don't understand your question.   You should be able to mix clips and stills without any problem.  Can you post a screen shot of what is not working?

I've never used the Create Slide Show.  I didn't know it was there.  I've only used the "drag and drop" method after picking a typical video clip to start the project.

Good that you got "slicing" to work.  Usually it is called "cutting" using the "cut tool".  But, it would be the same thing.

The black lines come when the shape or "aspect ratio" of a still image does not match the project settings.   Normally the project settings are determined when you put your first asset on the time line.  That should be a "primary" video clip and it usually be 16:9 because most of our TVs and video cameras use that ratio.   In "pixels" it will be 1920x1080 or 3840x2160.  (There are exceptions for social media).

Now that you have the screen ratio set, you can put a still photo in the project.  But, if it does not match the screen ratio, the black bars take up the extra space.   There are several ways to fix this.  One is to edit the stills in a photo editor and "crop" to the right ratio.  Another is by using "scale to frame size" that makes the image fit the frame.   There is a check box in General Preference that needs to be checked prior to importing the images.  You can also select and right click the image when it is on the timeline and find the menu choice.   You can do it manually by selecting the image and clicking in the preview window.  A frame with little white grab handles appear for you to use.  Last, under "Motion" in the Applied Effects Panel" there are adjustment controls.

If you are going to continue with video editing, I suggest you spend a couple hours watching this well done 8 part series on YouTube:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qvJOYhozGzs
