How to do digital postprocessing to double the optical zoom range

I recently read somewhere that a videoclip which is made with a camera in 4K mode with zoomlens to e.g. 600mm  should be zoomed further to 1200mm by postprocessing this clip in a video editor without almost no loss of quality. Basically, it comes down to cropping the original dimensions of the clip with a factor 2.

I have never read this type of postprocessing earlier. But if it exists, then my question is it possible with PRE 2024 and yes, how to realize that?

No, this process does not exist in video editing.

However you can edit and 4K in a 1080p timeline and zoom in to 100% without loosing image quality.

Even that upscaling gets better and more performant, upscaling (and that is what your talking about at the end of the day) does not create more information, which would be needed to zoom in further to 100%. So,

without almost no loss of quality.

would be difficult to achive.

And as you insist using zoom lenses, I suppose that the article is more about the optical compression with zoom lenses compared to let's say wide angle lenses.
