how to restore missing clips to timeline

When I reopened a project it asked "where is..." certain clips. When I found some & restored them to timeline it imported many unwanted clips never a part of my video. How to recover only those wanted clips in my original unfinished video?

This should not have happened, and I know no reason it would have.

When you say "unwanted clips" do you mean a longer part of a video you've trimmed or do you mean other video clips? Were these clips in your Project Assets before you found your lost clip?
