Question

I got a black screen while working with Premiere Elements 2022

I was editing a video as usual, and all of a sudden I got a black screen. The audio is fine, but its a black screen. The odd thing is that the video on video 1 that I am editing shows the video. Its just the preview at the top that shows a black screen, even when I click the "play" button.

I tried to turn it into an MP4 file, but it froze and wouldn't do anything. I event tried rendering it, but it also didn't do anything. The only thing I was able to do is save it as a PREL file.

I am using Windows 11.

Last week I got a black screen on my Premiere Elements 2023, and have been trying to get it to work by closing, and opening the PREL file daily. Today, July 18, I tried opening it again and miraculously IT WORKED! I didn't do anthing to it. I was even able to ave the PREL file as an MP4 file. I should mention that I opened it from within Premiere Elements 2023.

There is obviously something wrong with the Premiere Elements 2023 that causes problems on rare occasions, and cannot be fixed through solutions from the Adobe Community. The Adobe people replied to my email and gave me the alleged solution to fixing the problem, and they assumed my problem had to do with the issues they thought were going on with my Premiere Elements 2023.

One time before, it wouldn't let me save a certain file as an MP4 file, and Adobe helped me fix it by splitting it in half. The first half didn't work, but the second half worked, so I had to re-do the text on only the first half. It was a b*tch doing it all over again, but at least I only had to fix half of it.

The Adobe people didn't know what caused the problem, but at least they helped me fix it. I'm just glad these problems are rare. I just hope I don't keep getting errors with Premiere Elements 2023 in the future, especially because when I post a question for help on here, even though someone gives the correct solution, it doesn't work when the issue is a problem with the program, and unless I contact Adobe I think its me that's doing something wrong.

Now, if Adobe could help me be able to open PREL files all  the time with the "open project," or actually be visible when I go to "open projects," that would be great! It seems that most of my PREL files do not open no matter what I do.

Lastly, sometimes issues going on with Premiere Elements are caused by Premiere Elements not functioning right in the first place, but may be caused due to a refurbished computer having the locations changed during the refurbishing process. I don't understand anything about that, but that's what Yussuf at Adobe told me.

Do not count on Windows to be fully up to date when it comes to device drivers
Go to the vendor site to be sure you have an updated driver for your graphic adapter
.
nVidia Driver Downloads https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
-for all Adobe programs use the STUDIO driver, not the GAMING driver
-To achieve the highest level of reliability, Studio Drivers undergo extensive
-testing against multi-app creator workflows and multiple revisions of the top
-creative applications from Adobe to Autodesk and beyond
.
If you have a laptop you MAY also need to check for a laptop specific nVidia driver
-SOME laptops require an approved driver from the laptop company, not nVidia
.
AMD/ATI Driver https://www.amd.com/en/support
.
Intel https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/211969/Intel-HD-Graphics-Family

John T Smith,

I got this same email from Adobe just now. I didn't do anything, and miraculously the PREL file works now. I was able to open it from inside the Premiere Elements program just by clicking on the file, and was able to make an MP4 file. This leads me to believe that there is a problem with Premiere Elements 2023 that ocassionally goofs up, probably from a glitch in the programming. Its odd that I had a black screen since Friday, and today I tried opening it again, and it worked, with no black screen.
