Question

I have encountered a video problem

Recently purchased PE2022

The PE2022 fixed the audio shift problem but I have encountered a video problem. Importing video camera files that are about 7 – 8 Gb. The files are taken from a HDMI to USB converter and then transferred to the computer hard drive, then imported to PE2022 Project Assets. This is all 1280x720 29.97 fps I know the converter works because I can run the same clip in PE2021 getting a satisfactory picture. With no further editing the playback and rendered results are a fragmented video on both the preview screen and the resulting .mp4 file. Tried everything I can find in the way of settings with no avail. The only solution to get a satisfactory output is to run the original file through Hand Brake.

Do you have any suggestions?

Also, which device are you using to digitize your video.

As Ann says, USB digitizing devices are not the ideal choice. But there are some device that capture video and audio much more effectively than others.

7-8 gigabytes is a pretty large file -- though I guess not so much if you're talking about an hour or two of video as a single file.

It might be worth opening one of our captured MP4s in the free download MediaInfo. In MediaInfo, set View to Text and then copy the text of this report and paste it to this forum. That will give us detailed information that might reveal why these files are challenging. As I've said, not all capture devices work the same way -- and not all MP4s are the same specs.

The file is generated by a high quality Panasonic camera. The HDMI output goes to an HDMI/USB converter which produces a .mp4 file ~ 8 Gb. It is that file which PE2022 will not handle but PE 2021 and VLC will play without breaking up although PE2021 has the audio shift which started the whole problem. So far the only work around is running the file through Hand Brake which adds another production step which I thought purchasing PE2022 would correct. A brief clip showing the problem is attached

Which camera exactly? If this is a high quality camera why is the footage 720p?

Which converter?

Dont think hdmi to usb is a good way to go.

Converters can produce files that are out of sync.

What is the source of these files?
