I now have black borders around my YouTube video. I don't know why or how to correct it.

I have been using elements 2021 for some time.  I upload my video to my YouTube channel, Boonie Buster,.  All of my previous videos have appeared without black borders.  About 5 months ago I started getting the black border.  To my knowledge, I have not made any changes to my cameras or the Elements program.  You can view my channel and see that it started, even with the Thumbnails, about five months ago.  I have been ready other responses and doing some research on the web, but I can not figure out how to correct this.  Any help would be appreciated.  My YouTube channel is linked below. My cameras are an Android cellphone, a DJI Pocket camera, and an occasional GoPro camera.

Thanks for the help.  I think I figured out what was happening.  It is a wrong Aspect Ratio in the cameras.  The problem is, I have no idea how or why the setting changed.  I guess I need to check on the camera settings before I start shooting.  I have never had to do that before.  To my knowledge, I have never changed any camera settings.

I made sure my cellphone camera was now set to an aspect ration of 16.9, created a new test video, and uploaded it to a private channel on YouTube.  There were no black lines.  So I think I figured it our and my problem is solved. I’ll be doing more test today. Thanks,

Hello again,  I’m still having issues with my Premiere Elements 2021.  I can’t figure out what I have done to the program to have it make so many changes.  I can fix the black border problem.  But now when I upload a video from my cell phone, I get extremely lare black borders on the timeline.  I don’t know what the Hell is going on!  Is there a way to reset the program or reinstall it to get it back to what it was. I have had no problems with it for years.  But now I can[t figure out what it is doing, or have to reset it.  What do you advise?

Don’t uninstall, as you may have issues with reinstalling the 2021 version.

I think I figured it out. It has to do with aspect ratio.

From your YouTube videos, it looks like the video clips and the Premiere Elements project have different frame sizes. That can leave black bars above and below the picture or on its sides.

For your next video, try this:

    1. Check the frame size of the clip you want to use first.
    2. Start a new project in Premiere Elements and choose a project setting that matches that clip.
    3. Import the clip and place it on the timeline. If Elements asks whether to change the project settings to match the clip, choose Yes.
    4. Before uploading, play the exported video on your computer to check whether the bars are gone.

Try to use clips with the same frame size and shape throughout the project. Your phone, DJI Pocket, and GoPro may record in different formats, so a clip that doesn’t match may still show bars. You can scale that clip to fill the frame, but doing so will crop part of the picture.

If there are clips of different framesize in a timeline, you may use autoreframe to fit the clip.
During export also select the same framesize as you Project/Sequence size.
