Question

Imported iPhone video files running as fast as time-lapse video

On my desktop computer, the iphone .mov files imported into Premiere Element 2020 playback to fast, as if they are time-lapsed. They import fine on my laptop. There must be a setting that's off but I can't change the video settings because they are greyed out.

Most likely the issue is related to specs in the MOV file. As you may know, MOVs are not a single file format. They're actually a file envelope which can include any of dozens of codecs and compression systems, many of which Premiere Elements can have trouble identifying.

BTW what operating system are you working on?

When you first add that MOV to your timeline do you see a yellow orange 'render' line along the top of the timeline above the clip? This is an indication that the program was not able to identify and match the file's specs and that is resulting in poor program performance.

Open your MOV in the free download MediaInfo. In MediaInfo, set View to Text and then copy the text of this report and paste it to this forum. Once we know the detailed specs of this file we'll better be able to advise you.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the reply. Below is what you requested but what you might have missed in my post was the fact that I have the same version of Elements on two different computers (both running Windows 10), but the same .mov file works fine on the laptop. In fact, all of the mov files I import on the desktop computer have problems but they don't on the laptop, so I doubt the problem is with the mov files. I upgraded from Elements 2019 to 2020 yesterday, thinking that the older version (where I first encountered the problem), got corrupted. Last year, the 2019 version had also been on the laptop but was removed months ago so the latest 2020 version was a clean install. So I tried uninstalling both versions off the desktop this morning and then I reinstalled the 2020 version, but unfortunatly it still has the same problem. Is it possible there is a registry entry that's wrong that didn't get removed when I uninstalled the software?

BTW: This only started happening a couple weeks ago. You can go to my YouTube channel at brucehornak, to see the videos I have been producing for a couple years without a problem, all using either the iPhone 6 or my iPhone 10.

Thanks, Bruce Hornak
